Bunk 1 bunk skit 1972 or 73

The date is easily verifiable–I’m just too lazy to go to the next room to check my yearbooks. Thanks to Meryl for the missing word.

Well, this is unusual to remember, but I wrote it (or co-wrote it) and my words are my children, and how can I forget a child?

To the “You Deserve a Break Today” McDonald’s theme

Bunk 1’s always late
We make Lynne Cramer wait
Tell us what does it mean?
It means Susie must scream

Every night out she goes
And she says we’re real low
We’re obnoxious and bad
Which makes our counselors sad

And at movies, we’re real pests
But at night time, we’re the best
We are bunk 1
We are bunk 1
We are BUNK 1!

Various Color War snippets

Supplied by me and Meryl:

There was an alma mater that went to Precious and Few:
For treasured and loved are the memories of Crane Lake Camp.

A fight song to the tune of Hey, Hey We’re the Monkees:
Hey, hey we’re the Blue Team

Something was done to A Spoonful of Sugar, which I believe was a white team, Warlocks.

Cuz the white team is telling you that victory is ours,
With our strength and power, we’re marching tonight
blah blah blah
Victory belongs to us

Someone did something to the Flintstones:
Blue team. We’re the blue team. (or some such…)

‘73 (Blue Rams) Alma mater

Here’s a hodgepodge of bits of this song. It’s a bit like an archeological dig, isn’t it?

To “You See This Guy” — Doreen Hemlock (and my sister?) wrote this:

The season ends
Now our colors blend
(totally lost stuff)

We will return
To greet the morning light
Blue and white
Our friendships echo in the night
We unite
As the autumn tells us we must leave each year
We leave Crane Lake
But not our friendships cuz
We will return
We will return
We will return (with a sad little attempt at 2-part harmony)

( Did you know your brain is designed to forget stuff like this?)

White team lions 71

Maybe I just think everything was from ‘70. I stand corrected. It was a losing team, the White Lions in ‘71.

I actually was awakened to this song on the radio the other day. The Color War entrance was actually a medley.

Starts to the song that goes “Baby, now that I’ve found you please don’t let me go.”

Watch out, white team Lions  are now coming through
We’ll show Crane Lake our power as we capture Blue
We’ll show our strength anew
Cuz we’rewhite team (men?), white team

Then it went to “You make me so very happy.”

White men united here
We want to make it clear
We’ll show our strength this year

(blah blah, something missing)

(Then, “I love you baby” –Frankie Vallee?)

Yield to our power
White team something something this is our hour
Blah blah
And now our victory’s sealed…

Okay, that’s the best I can do. That was one funky Color War song. I’m going to collapse in a heap from brain strain for coming up with any part of that…

Year/team alma mater unknown: Jeff Rabinowitz author?

Some bits that Meryl remembers from an alma mater. I didn’t remember it until she sent the last two lines the “bing!” We don’t know the name of the song but it’s something like “Away in the Meadow” or some such thing. Like a nursery rhyme type of song. Anyone remember? It probably was a blue team.

10/11 – Made some changes based on feedback

Sometimes in the morning the air is so cold
I dress myself warmly as I have been told
I sit down to breakfast, hot chocolate run brown
A summer of friendships I found.

Our days here at Crane Lake are filled to the brim,
With morning activities and afternoon swim
And so in this moment of white holding blue,
Our song in the Berkshires rolls through.

“Comedy Tonight” Color War song?

Just had one of those weird moment when a snippet of something comes to you. There was a Color War or fight song that went to the song “Comedy Tonight” from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It must have been a looooong time ago–the musical came out in ‘66.

 Anyone remember it? Meryl?

CLC ‘70 alma mater

Whatever the team was, I’m pretty sure White team won that year. This alma mater is pretty well remembered (same year as the Wells Fargo march–no lyrics coming back to me on that one). I have most of the lyrics still (just carried around in this sick little brain):

(To “Here, There, and Everywhere” — anyone know who wrote it??)

Now that summer has come to a close
We will remember the days we have spent
What they have meant
To all of us surely shows

We will treasure the friendships we’ve made
During the summer we learned many things
Living together in peace is our foremost goal

It’s a brand new world
And the only way to make it work is learn to love
In a camp this can be what we’re thinking of

CLC 70 proves
Camp can contain both the learning and fun
Under the sun
We hope we will soon return
CLC 70
CLC 70

1969 Alma mater

I don’t know the name of the melody, but this was a really good one. Here are the words:

As the summer moon grows dim,
the cooling winds begin,
fast go the days at Crane Lake

As I feel the seasons change,
my life I rearrange
but friendship bonds will not break

Ten months I will be away,
but memories will stay,
to warm our hearts forever

(Repeat, and second time sing last line thus)
to warm our hearts forevermore
(Swiftly go the days at Crane Lake)

A Camp, Built on Honor and Love

Can you fill in the rest of the words?

A camp built on honor and love
To whom we will always been true
To thee, we give praises Camp Crane Lake
Fond memories will carry us through

(Complete verse missing here, and I think the above line is actually the last line of the second verse)

This is farewell, the autumn must start
A time filled with sorrow, a time to depart
One dream to be had
To be loved and be shared
Hoping soon to renew lasting friendships too precious to spare

And we know as the years fade away
We are bound to return

Our lake will lie peaceful and calm
Our trees will stand steadfast and strong
Our mountains will echo with laughter…
Camp Crane Lake…To you we belong!
